With college football season right around the corner again it’s time for the release of the new wave of EA Sports titles. First up this summer is NCAA Football 2013 which I went and bought the other day. I’ll say there’s nothing like playing with a Heisman great, which is really the focus of this season’s game.
I picked up the game from Walmart, they hadn’t even put the game out on shelves at around 11am on release day. After scooping it up along with some “party supplies” I was ready to go after work. A few coworkers came over and we put it to the test.
Right away I’m blown away by the graphics and player animations in-game. It’s uncanny how they can render so many things so fast. In between plays looks almost like you’re watching on TV.
My buddy and I decided to test out the realism of the stadiums by playing as our alma mater, Syracuse University. It’s great to see they had Ernie Davis Legends field painted inside the Carrier Dome. All the little features had been replicated, including stadium banners!
Yeah you gotta have party supplies :)
This season is all about improvements over last season. As a fan of NCAA 12, i’ve noticed a few differences already between NCAA Football 13 and NCAA Football 12:
Heisman Challenge - You can play as RGIII, Desmond Howard, Barry Sanders, and more. Of course Tim Tebow is available, but only as a downloadable character.
New gameplay controls - An all-new passing system allows you to get the ball away quicker, evade defenders rushing, and run the option better.
Reaction Time – A “Slow-mo” feature that slows the game down, supposedly increasing your awareness.
Dynamic Dynasty - Go deeper than ever before with recruiting in dynasty mode. The addition of live ESPN on “Gameday Saturday” adds to the realism of this game.
My buddy and I decided to fire up a game of Mascot Matchup, pitting the Mountaineers against the Florida Gators. Nothing like a bunch of mountain men chasing after those pesky gators
As I mentioned in my blog post last week, this year EA Sports is again giving fans the chance to cover the game themselves thanks to this really cool Facebook app appropriately named: “You’re Covered!” The app lets users upload a photo into the face of one of their favorite teams, and then save it and print it out at home. How neat is that? While I don’t have any kids personally, I know if you did, they would love to get a game with their face on it. I put my own face on it representing UCF, because unfortunately they didn’t have Syracuse University as an option. I’m pretty bummed but what can you do. There’s always next year.
The good folks over at EA Sports have given me the chance to giveaway some prizes to my readers. One person will win their choice of either:
1 $50 Walmart Giftcard or 1 of the following EA Sports games (Madden 13, NHL 13, or Medal of Honor – you pick one)
